The Office of Intercultural Engagement fosters an environment where students can seek support, share their narratives, and celebrate heritage. Your experiences contribute to the diverse tapestry of our campus, and the Black Collective provides a nurturing space where your voices can resonate and thrive. 

Community Engagement

Student Affairs and the Office of Intercultural Engagement (OIE) are committed to providing Black students multifaceted support, this is done through programs such as the Black Collective, events throughout the school year, and learning opportunities. In addition to this, there are dedicated professional and student staff whose aim is to provide support and events centered around the providing space for Black students on UNCG’s campus.  

When you enter OIE (located in the Elliot University Center, room 062), we want you to feel welcomed, safe, and seen. Our office is a place for you to connect with other students on campus.

Upcoming Events

TBC Town Halls – an opportunity for students to be informed of what the TBC is planning for the upcoming months. Also, an opportunity for students to express concerns or ideas that they would like to see happen in relation to students who identify as Black or part of the African Diaspora here on the UNCG campus.

TBC Workshop Series – the topics of goal setting, time management, and overcoming procrastination will be taught over a three-week period for students who are interested in sharpening tools that will lead to success in the classroom and life.

TBC Adopt a Park – a chance for students to get engaged with the community outside of the UNCG campus by helping clean and care for a park. This will be considered a commitment where we will have at least four clean up days a year going forward but with the first one starting this upcoming fall.

Spartans in Dialogue will take place from October 20 through November 21, 2025. The Black Collective will be hosting an exclusive session on topics relating to the Black community. Interested in participating? email Tobias @ tspostell@uncg.edu.

The Black Collective (TBC) is a dedicated space designed to foster a supportive and vibrant community for all Black students at UNCG. We recognize the unique experiences of Black students and strive to provide a platform for connection, fellowship, personal growth, and academic success.

Mental Health

The UNCG Counseling Center on campus is an invaluable resource for, offering a safe space to discuss personal, academic, and cultural challenges. Recognizing the unique experiences and pressures faced by Black students, the center provides culturally competent counselors who understand the importance of identity, community, and resilience. They offer support through one-on-one counseling, group sessions, and workshops focused on mental health, stress management, and navigating campus life. By utilizing these services, you will be able to find support, develop coping strategies, and enhance your overall well-being, empowering you to thrive during your college journey.
