El Grito | Sunday 9/15/2024 | 12-6pm | Charlotte, NC | La Raza and La Zeta radio stations will host North Carolina’s Fiestas Patrias returning In 2024 with a festival that will showcase all the celebrations of Mexican Independence Day, El Grito. The festival will feature live music entertainment, arts and crafts, authentic Mexican street food, bouncy houses for kids along with other fun activities designed for them. UNCG Admissions will be there, stop by at their table! The entire FREE festival is designed to attract the attention of attendees of all ages! *Own transportation required. |
Fiesta at the Fountain – Hispanic Heritage Month Kick Off | Monday 9/16/24 | 6:00-9:00pm | *Moved into EUC Cone due to rain* | MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL X SALSA X OIE HERENCIA Join us for FIESTA AT THE FOUNTAIN on September 16th to celebrate the kickoff of Hispanic Heritage Month and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) Week! We will have a live DJ, food truck, giveaways, student performances and a great time. Learn about HHM and the different independence days as well as all the events MGC’s have the rest of the week. The MGC’s will also be hosting a can for can drive to give back to the Spartan Open Pantry. Don’t forget to bring a canned good and receive a drink! You won’t want to miss out! |
“I wish to say” Letters to the next president. Quiero decir, postales para el proximo presidente | Tuesday 9/17/2024 | 3pm-4pm | Taylor Gardens | Sheryl Oring’s I Wish to Say National Tour, invites Students and the Public to Speak Out and write a letter to the next president. Artist uses manual typewriter to collect postcards for the next U.S. President. Oring, dresses as a 1960s secretary, and creates a public office where she types participants’ messages verbatim onto postcards. Each original is sent to the White House, while a carbon copy is preserved for her archive. Write your postcard in English, Spanish or any language and enjoy refreshments. FIESTA | Saturday 9/21/2024 | 12 pm –6pm | Siler City | The 11th Annual Hispanic Heritage Fiesta is an outdoor, family-friendly celebration of rich Latin-American cultural traditions and the many contributions of Latinxs to the US. For the first time, this event will take place at the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center. El Vínculo Hispano/The Hispanic Liaison anticipates attracting over 5,000 attendees this year. Everyone is welcome! UNCG Admissions will be there, stop by and say hello! Own transportation required. |

VOISES Latinx | Tuesday 9/24/2024 | 1pm | Join the UTLC and Office of Intercultural Engagement for a conversation about key UNCG student experiences in the classroom and beyond. VOISES panels provide a venue for faculty to hear the perspective of students about their experience on campus. These moderated panels give faculty the chance to ask questions while reflecting on ways they can support student success and learning. Alianza Symposium: Los soñadores | Thursday 10/3/2024 | 6:30 pm | SOEB 114 | Join us for day one of the Alianza Symposium for the the screening of the documentary “El soñador” featuring Oscar Romero, a senior software engineer at Merit America. This will follow a q&a with Oscar and a panel with other UNCG Alumni “soñadores”. Light refreshments provided. |
Alianza Symposium: Latines in the South | Friday 10/4/2024 | 1 pm | SOEB 114 | Join us for day two of the Alianza Symposium for a book talk with Dr. Cecilia Marquez, author of “Making the Latino South.” This will follow an q&a with Dr. Marquez and book signing. There will also be an alumni panel around being a Latine student in the south. Reception with light refreshments to conclude the event. |
Nuestras raíces | Monday 10/7/2024 | 2 pm – 3:30 pm | EUC Kirkland | Students from the Spanish heritage classes give presentations about their linguistic and cultural roots in Spanish and read their own personal poems about their bilingual identities. All are welcome to attend! |
Hot Topics & Aguas Frescas | Monday 10/7/2024 | 5 pm – 7 pm | EUC Alexander | Round table discussion around HOT topics about identity, familial expectations, generational trauma, and financial hardships. Cool off with aguas frescas and learn about resources on campus |
