What is Spartans-In-Dialogue?

Spartans-In-Dialogue is a 5-week interactive dialogue experience designed to build relationships across difference and explore topics related to racial identity, race relations, and intersectionality. As a participant, you will learn more about yourself and understand others who are different than you while practicing dialogue skills to communicate effectively about difficult topics. You will learn communication, group dynamics, and diversity skills you can document on the co-curricular transcript to help you with employment, graduate, and professional schools.

How does this benefit me?

Goals for Spartan-In-Dialogue Program:

  • Meet new people to build relationships and effectively communicate across difference on campus
  • Increase awareness and understanding of personal and other perspectives and experiences to promote inclusion on campus.
  • *Develop and practice dialogue skills to engage in meaningful conversations about difficult topics
  • *Participants will get an official “certificate of completion” after completing the 5-week experience.

*(GREAT for your resume and future leadership roles and job qualifications)

What is the time commitment?

  • Dialogue groups will consist of 8-12 undergraduate and graduate students who will meet for 2 hours a week for 5 weeks during the semester. See full semester timeline below.
  • All participants who complete the 5-week experience will receive an official “certificate of completion” at the Spartans-In-Dialogue celebration and this experience will appear on your Co-Curricular Transcript.  See date below.

Who are Facilitators?

  • These groups will be led by trained co-facilitators (UNCG faculty, staff, and graduate students) who will guide open, honest, challenging, and reflective conversations.
