Who are SCOPES?

Student Coordinators of Peer Education (SCOPE) is a leadership position in the Office of Intercultural Engagement (OIE). SCOPEs are undergraduate students who are selected and trained to facilitate diversity and social justice education events and workshops for the Kaleidoscope Program.

 

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan, and  facilitate engaging programs and interactive workshops for the Kaleidoscope program that promote awareness and appreciation of various social identities and their intersections,(e.g. race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, religion/spirituality, gender, sexuality, class, etc.) and other topics related to social justice education.
  • Actively promote Kaleidoscope program and associated programs and workshops.
  • Must be present and on time without exception for all scheduled work hours, assignments and training sessions:
    • Attend an Orientation on Friday, March 24, 2017 (12-4pm)
    • Attend a weekend training retreat in Fall 2017- dates TBD
    • Attend and actively participate in bi-weekly (2 hours) SCOPES meetings (day of week & time TBD)

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Passion for/ interest in topics related to diversity, social justice and equity
  • Related skills with programming, and leading activities/discussions
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others
  • Solid communication skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to be creative, innovative, and resourceful
  • Preferable to commit to at least two consecutive semesters
  • Must be in good academic standing, with minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5
  • Must be in good disciplinary standing with the university

Monday, January 30th @ 3pm

Thursday, February 2nd @ 4pm

Friday, February 10th @ 2pm

Applications Due Tuesday, February 14, 2017, 5pm
SCOPE Auditions February 22nd, 23rd, and 24th
Individual Interviews Will be scheduled after audition interviews.
SCOPEs Spring Orientation Friday, March 24, 2017, 12PM-4PM
SCOPEs Fall 2016 Training TBD
Weekly Training/meetings TBD
