OIE events FAQ for COVID-19

It is critically important to stay connected and informed during this time. Please regularly check our University’s dedicated Coronavirus website. You can bookmark it for easy access, and it will be updated frequently. Please ensure you are monitoring your email, as the University will update conditions as soon as the information becomes available. The University also recommends downloading the UNCG Mobile app for your phone from the iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store. The University will push important notifications to your device from the app. Also, please follow @uncg on your social media platforms – this is a fast, easy way to stay up to date, and you can help by reposting/retweeting information on your accounts.

In keeping consistent with the University’s response to the COVID-19 virus concerns, the Division of Student Affairs has made the decision to cancel all Student Affairs-sponsored events and programming through March. As OIE is in the Division, this does impact our programming. Please see below to answer some frequently asked questions moving forward.

Is the Powwow happening on Saturday, March 14?

This event has been cancelled.

Is the Intercultural Lecture Series program happening on Thursday, March 19?

This event has been cancelled.

Is the Tunnel of Oppression happening on Tuesday, March 24?

The Tunnel of Oppression will not take place but event planners are considering ways for parts of the TOP experience to be made available online.  Details will be shared as they become available.

Is the LiNC Conference happening on Saturday March 28?

This event has been cancelled.

Are the remaining Safe Zone and Trans Zone workshops still taking place?

All Safe and Trans Zone workshops have been cancelled for the remainder of the semester. Information regarding access to these trainings online will be shared once they become available, no later than March 23rd.

Will the remaining Intercultural Leadership Council meetings still take place?

The remaining meetings have been cancelled.

Will the remaining CommUnity Dialogues take place?

The CommUnity Dialogue scheduled for Monday, March 16 is being postponed.  We are exploring options for delivering this and remaining events via an online live streaming or video service.  Please check back for details.

I am a Spartans in Dialogue participant this semester, will my group still meet?

Spartans in Dialogue groups will meet virtually on the same dates and times that were originally scheduled.  You will be notified with instructions for how to access your groups using an online platform that we will identify after consulting with participants, facilitators and program coordinators.

Are Pride Month events still happening?

All Pride Month events through April 7 have been cancelled or postponed. Details about events after this date will be shared as they become available. I requested a presentation or workshop earlier in the semester around the topics of gender and sexuality, will someone still come to present?

All workshop requests and presentations have been cancelled for the remainder of the semester. Please contact Elliott Kimball erkimba2@uncg.edu or Briana Joseph brjosep2@uncg.edu if you are interested in access to our online Safe and Trans Zone Course, or would like to schedule a live virtual presentation with our staff.

I requested a presentation or workshop earlier in the semester from the SCOPES, will someone still come to present?

The SCOPES program is not currently doing any face to face workshops during the month of March.  Please contact us via email or check back in the coming weeks for more information about availability for April.

My club has events or meetings scheduled for the IRC space in the coming weeks.  Are we still able to meet?

All events that are scheduled in the IRC through March 30 are cancelled.  Information about events in April will be posted as it becomes available.

If I need to get in contact with someone from OIE, how do I do that?

We will be checking our intercultural@uncg.edu email account regularly.  Please give us 24 hours to respond.
