Humanitarian Award

The Humanitarian Award has been established to recognize and reward any UNCG-affiliated student organization or residence hall that has demonstrated social responsibility in responding to domestic and/or global issues. The winning student organization or residence hall will receive $200 to be used for programming and an engraved plaque. The nomination form can be found at the bottom of this page. 

Eligibility

Nomination is open to any qualified university-affiliated student organization or residence hall with an established CAP account set up for transferring or depositing the monetary award from OIE funds. Examples of suitable accounts are as follows:

  • A fundraising account through Campus Activities and Programs — NOT an account set up for funds allocated through SGA
  • An affiliation with a UNCG department or office that can accept the monetary award through Interdepartmental Invoice on behalf of and for the use of your group

You can be part of the group you are nominating, or someone outside the group can nominate them.

Criteria

  • Groups to be considered for the Humanitarian Award must show examples of having a strong commitment to participating in or promoting activities that emphasize social responsibility in responding to domestic and/or global issues.
  • Must be active in the University and possibly in communities beyond UNCG
  • Promotes and participates in community activities and programs addressing the needs of specific populations and/or addressing issues that impact the lives of all members of UNCG. 

Examples include:

  • Planning a hunger banquet that raises awareness about the living conditions of people experiencing homelessness in Greensboro and around the world
  • Providing mentoring and educational enrichment for “at risk” youth or youth with disabilities
  • Educating the university community on how to lobby the state and local government for societal needs
  • Launching a breast cancer awareness campaign
  • Organizing a domestic violence vigil

The Office of Intercultural Engagement is accepting nominations for the Humanitarian Award through Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024.  The winning student organization or residence hall will receive $200 to be used for programming (the funds will carry over to your group’s account for next year) and an engraved plaque. The recipient will be announced at the Spartans of Excellence Awards Banquet on Monday, April 22, 2024.
